Abstract
1514010 Wollastonite agglomerate J V WORTHINGTON 20 Oct 1976 43446/76 Heading C1A An agglomerate of wollastonite (calcium silicate) crystals comprises a spherical shell construction having up to 150Á outer diameter, with an interior space defined by the shell, at least 50 wt. per cent comprising #-wollastonite crystals interlocked three-dimensionally. A shaped product of wollastonite crystals may be obtained by dispersing the agglomerate in water, optionally adding inorganic/organic fibres, clay, or cement, shaping and drying. The agglomerate may be prepared by drying and firing a slurry of xonotlite crystals at 1000-1100‹C, the xonotlite slurry being prepared by heating an aqueous slurry of SiO 2 and CaO under steam pressure.
