Abstract
Deposits produced by electroplating which contain a metal from the group nickel and cobalt, or a binary or ternary alloy of metals from the group nickel, iron and cobalt, are obtained by passing a current through an aqueous, acidic electroplating solution which contains compounds which release the ions required for the desired deposit or in which the metals are supplied by the anode. In order to achieve deposits having increased ductility, increased brightness, greater hiding power and improved levelling, the deposition is carried out in the presence of from 10 to 2000 micromol per litre of an organic disulphide compound or a salt or ester thereof, of the formula R1-S-S-R2, in which R1 and R2 are <IMAGE> where n is zero or an integer from 1 to 5, X1 represents -OH, -NH2, <IMAGE> or <IMAGE> or an ester thereof, and X2, X3 and X4 have the same meaning as X1 or mean H, X3 and X4 not simultaneously being H.
