1508983 Lintels AUTOMATIC PRESSINGS Ltd 21 May 1975 [5 April 1974] 15370/74 Headings E1B and E1K A lintel comprises planar parallel elongate top and bottom plates, an elongate web rigidly secured at right angles to the two plates with its plane in the direction of elongation of the plates and a stiffener secured wholly within the confines of these other members and having at least some projected area greater than its thickness in a plane at right angles to the web. As shown in Fig. 1 the web 17 is the bottom of a U- channel joining top and bottom plates 20, 15 and the stiffener is a corrugated plate 22. A synthetic plastics apron 23 extends downwardly and then forwardly across the cavity 12 between the wall leaves and is fixed to the forward extension 13 of the bottom plate 15. A corrugated strip 16 is secured to the parts 13, 15. In a modification, Fig. 2 not shown the top plate is extended vertically downwardly to a corrugated bottom plate bridging the cavity and has a forward extension overlying it, a plastics drip tray overlying this extension of the top plate and having an inclined portion covering the lower angle of the extension. Fig. 3 shows a box form lintel having opposed webs 44, 47 with corrugated internal stiffeners secured to the top and bottom plates 41, 45. A corrugated plate 50 is welded to the underside of the bottom plate and in a modification (Fig. 4 not shown) extends to bridge a wall cavity, an overlying damp resistor plate being provided.
