Abstract

1507021 Collapsible gas containers BRITISH STEEL CORP 26 Feb 1975 [26 Feb 1974] 8673/74 Heading F1N [Also in Division F4] A collapsible container 15, which can be regarded as a compressor working chamber, has means associated therewith to expand it to take in gas for storage and to collapse it to discharge such stored gas. The container 15, employed to store evolved carbon monoxide from the burner 4 of a basic oxygen steel making process, comprises a cylindrical corrugated flexible bag 16 of rubber, PVC, or a combination thereof, being sealed by its mouth to a rigid chamber containing for example air or inert gas, evacuation of gas from chamber 20 by fan 30 causing the bag 16 to expand and thus draw in CO from burner 4 via lines 12, 14, and filling of chamber 20 by fan 30 causing collapse of bag 16 to discharge CO via line 26 to a point of utilization. For evacuation of chamber 20 valves 34, 38 are closed and valves 32, 36 opened, while filling of chamber 20 is effected with valves 32, 36 closed and 34, 38 open. The bag 16 may have the shape of an oblate spheroid, Fig. 2 (not shown).
