1502650 Power wrenches NSW CORP 8 Sept 1975 [17 Sept 1974] 36929/75 Heading B3N A power tool for tightening and loosening one of a plurality of adjacently spaced threaded connectors (nuts 12) comprises a driver 16, including socket 17, for transmitting torque to the connector, a lever whose arm 22 extends laterally from the driver, and a reaction assembly 31, against which an actuator 40 reacts when acting on the end of the arm 22, the assembly comprising an abutment member 34 for fitting on to another of the connectors and a reaction beam 33 coupled towards one end to the abutment member and at the other end to a collar 32 rotatable on the driver 16. As shown, the fluid-pressure-operated actuator is double acting and pivoted on beam 33. The piston rod has a pin 48 at the end which cooperates with a notched plate arrangement or head 26 to provide a ratchet effect to rotate the arm 22 and loosen the nut connector on reciprocation of the piston. By turning the head 26 upside-down, Fig. 6, not shown, the tool may be used for tightening the nut. In one embodiment, Fig. 3, the abutment member 34 is pivotally mounted via arm 60 on beam 33, the pivot pin 63 being positionable in any of holes 64, the arrangement allowing for different positionings of the connectors. In the other embodiment, Fig. 7, the abutment member 34 is integrally formed with a slide member 66 slidable on beam 33. Since the actuator 40 acts perpendicularly or substantially perpendicularly to arm 22, the torque applied to the connector 12 is proportional to the fluid pressure in the actuator and gauges (46, 46<SP>1</SP>, in the feed lines to the actuator (Fig. 4, not shown) may be calibrated in torque values.
