Abstract

1,112,806. Wrenches. SOCIETE DES AUTOMOBILES SIMCA. 17 June, 1966 [28 June, 1965], No. 27144/66. Heading B4W. A torque measuring wrench comprises an external sleeve 2, to which a handle 1 is secured, so as to project perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis thereof, an inner sleeve 3 being mounted within the outer sleeve in bearings 5, 6, and wherein the sleeve 3 is slotted at 8 to define deformable blades connecting the two ends of the inner sleeve, the upper end 21 being secured to one end of the outer sleeve and the lower end 22 having a tip 7 to which is secured a socket 19 adapted to tighten a nut or bolt. A dial indicator 10 for measuring the displacement of the two ends of the internal sleeve 3 is fixed to the upper end 21 of the sleeve and has a movable rod 11 spring urged into contact with the head 16 of a screw 13, which is screwed into an aperture at the lower end of the inner sleeve. The slots 8 in the sleeve may be arranged with their axes either parallel or inclined to the axis of the sleeve. In operation, when a torque is applied to a bolt 20, the resistance exerted on tip 7 will produce torsion in sleeve 3, and due to the slots 8, the ends 21, 22 of the sleeve move relatively to each other in an axial direction, which movement is indicated by indicator 10.
