1501680 Joining optic fibres POST OFFICE 6 Oct 1976 [24 Oct 1975] 43860/75 Heading G2J Optical fibres are connected in end-to-end relationship by inserting in a heat-shrinkable plastics sheath having a bore of less than two fibre diameters, at least one end of the bore being filled and then thermally shrinking the sheath. Preferably the sheath is surrounded by a metal tube which is resistance heated to cure the thermal shrinkage. Specification 1458831 is referred to.
