Abstract
The splice includes a first member 12 having locating means for receiving fibres 32, 34 in end-to-end disposition, and a contractable outer member 16 overlaying the locating means. As shown, member 12 has V- shaped grooves along which bared fibres 32, 34 are slid, and sleeve 16 is heat shrunk onto the connection. Preferably member 12 is glass and sleeve 16 is plastics. Enlarged ends 90 of member 12 may be connected by a strain relieving metal ferrule (98, Figure 3). More than one pair of fibres may be spliced (e.g. Figure 7). <IMAGE>
