Abstract
1500074 Hydraulic dampers with restoring means HALLIBURTON CO 21 March 1975 [22 March 1974] 12010/75 Heading F2S In an hydraulic piston-cylinder damper of the type having a plurality of parts 74 in the cylinder wall 34 progressively covered by the piston 46, at least two of the ports have check valves 80, Fig. 6, which open to allow flow from the cylinder chamber, and at least the first port 82 has no check valve. The damper is required to be received in a fluid tight housing 122, 112, 124, 120 connected to the cylinder and to the piston, the housing including an elastomeric member 122 biasing the damper to its extended position. The ports 74 are exponentially spaced, and may be aligned, as shown, or circumferentially spaced. The first 20% of the ports viz. 82 and 84 are unvalved, and the remainder are valved. The pressure at which the valves open is adjustable. The throttling provided by the valve is determined by the extent to which the valve member 94 lifts off its seat 92, until it hits a stop 108 on rebound liquid flows into the chamber 66 via a check valve (128) near the cylinder base.
