( 21) Application No 2055/78 ( 22) ( 31) Convention Application No 2752453 ( 32) ( 33) Fed Rep of Germany (DE) C\ ( 44) C ( 51) ( 52)
Complete Specification Published 14 Oct 1981
INT CL 3 F 23 D 13/24 Index at Acceptance F 4 T 120 EC GX ( 54) GAS BURNER FOR IN IN COOKER T Ri ( 71) We, AUGUST ENDERS AG, a German Company, of Altenaer Str, 248 5880 Lildenscheid 8, Germany, do nereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement.
The invention relates to a gas burner for installation in a cooker tray, and more particularly but not exclusively to a gas burner having a cover, and a burner pipe connector leading into the burner head, the latter being adapted to be inserted from below into a corresponding aperture in the cooker tray, the burner head being provided in its bottom region, above the burner pipe, with an outwardly extending abutment which is adapted to be supported against the lower side of the cooker tray and which corresponds to a clamping element held on the burner head and adapted to be supported on the upper side of the cooker tray, a sensor of a flame failure device being disposed in a bore in the burner head.
In one gas burner of this kind which is known from German Gebrauchsmuster (Utility Model) Specification No 74 15 526, the burner cover is mounted eccentrically on the burner head In addition, at the side of the burner cover seat, there is provided in the thick-walled burner head a cavity which is open at the bottom and extends papallel to the centre axis of the burner head and which has a bore disposed in its roof, a sensor of a flame failure device being inserted into the bore and being fastened in the axial direction by means of screw elements.
The clamp used to retain the burner head in the cooker tray consists of a ring adapted to screw on the burner head and disposed on the one hand co-axially with the latter and on the other hand axially parallel to the burner cover provided with the gas nozzles.
Instead of a screw ring, a clamp ring in the form of a bayonet fastening is disclosed as an alternative.
In this case however it is still necessary to provide a sealing ring between the clamp ring and the upper side of the cooker tray, in order to prevent liquid from penetrating below the cooker tray in the region of the burner.
ION ( 1 Filed 18 Jan 1978 1599983 Filed 24 Nov 1977 in WSTALLATION k Ys In addition, the mounting of the gas burner takes a relatively long time.
Furthermore, the disadvantage exists that because of the eccentric arrangement of the burner cover, in relation to the burner head, the 55 apertures receiving each burner head must also be disposed eccentrically in the cooker tray, that is to say in relation to the cooking points of the ribbed plate serving as the utensil support 60 On the other hand, the burner heads must be accurately aligned in the apertures in relation to the cooking points on the ribbed plate, since if a burner head is turned even slightly out of its correct position the burner cover will no longer 65 be disposed coaxially to the cooking point of the ribbed plate.
Moreover, a gas burner of this kind, in which the burner pipe connection leads vertically from below into the burner head, requires a rel 70 atively large height for the space situated below the cooker tray.
The problem underlying the invention is that of providing for a gas burner of the kind described above, but with provision for simlifying 75 and reducing the cost of manufacture and installation and for reducing its overall height.
According to the invention, there is provided a gas burner for installation in a cooker tray, comprising a burner head having a cover, and a 80 burner pipe connector leading into the burner head, the burner head being adapted to be inserted from below into a corresponding aperture formed in the cooker tray and being provided in its bottom region, above the burner 85 pipe, wiht an outwardly extending abutment which is adapted to be supported against the lower side of the cooker tray and which when installed cooperates with a clamping element disposed on the burner head which engages the go upper side of the cooker tray, wherein the burner cover is disposed centrally of the burner head and a flame failure sensor is located in a bore extending obliquely upwards and outwards from the lower side of the burner head, 95 which bore forms an acute angle (a) with the central axis of burner head so as to lead out in the region of the peripheral wall of the burner head above the clamping element.
By this means, the disadvantages resulting 100 m 1 599 983 hitherto from the eccentric arrangement of the burner cover in relation to the burner head are overcome without having to give up the advantages of the fastening of the sensor of the flame failure device on the burner head.
Moreover, because of its inclined position, the sensor projects far less in the downward direction than in the known arrangement, thus also providing a shorter overall height than hiterto.
In this arrangement it is advantageous for the burner pipe connector to be arranged to form an acute angle with the central axis of the burner head, preferably in such a manner that the burner pipe connector is disposed so as to extend at least approximately parallel to the bore receiving the sensor.
For the sake of further simplification both in manufacture and in installation, in an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the clamping element is in the form of a circlip and is held at least by cohesive friction on the burner heat; preferably the circlip engages positively in a recess such as an annular groove provided in the peripheral wall of the burner head above the abutment.
In a further development of the details described above the circlip is in the form of an annular sealing ring which is adapted to be resiliently prestressed both radially and in the axial direction For this purpose, in a preferred embodiment the circlip is made of rubber or other resilient material to engage in an annular groove provided in the peripheral wall of the burner head; preferably the cirelip engages positively in a recess such as an annular groove proannular groove.
In this way the manufacture, preparation, and installation of a sealing ring, which was required hitherto, becomes unneccesary.
A cover ring of deformation-resistant material, preferably of metal, can be secured at least by friction over the circlip to shield the circlip from the outside.
This has the consequence that the region in which the burner is connected to the cooker tray can be cleaned conveniently In addition, the sealing ring is also protected against mechanical damage.
In another embodiment of the invention, which is advantageous both for manufacture and for installation, the sensor is held in the bore with the aid of snap-fit means, comprising a cylindrical recess in the region of the lower mouth of the bore, which extends parallel to the central axis of the burner head, the recess being defined by a flank against which a shoulder provided on the sensor engages.
In order that the invention may be more fully understood, embodiments thereof will now be described, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:Figure 1 is a plan view from above of an installed gas burner; Figure 2 shows in elevation the same burner sectioned on the line II-II in Figure 1; and Figure 3 shows a like view of a modified embodiment.
In Figures 1 and 2, a gas burner is shown installed in a cooker tray 1 (only part of which is shown) A circular burner cover 2 is mounted centrally on a burner head 3 A connector 4, which is formed on the burner head and to which is connected a burner pipe 5 supplying a mixture of gas and air, leads from below into the burner head.
A flange-like abutment 7 is formed on the burner head 3, and this is inserted from below into a circular aperture 6 in the cooker tray 1 so that the abutment 7 engages the lower side of the cooker tray 1.
Above this abutment 7 the burner head 3 is provided with an annular groove 8, in which is engaged a circlip 9 which is in the form of an endless rubber ring of rectangular cross-section, and which secures without play the burner head 3 in the aperture 6 in the axial direction, and also seals the aperture 6 against seepage of liquids.
A cover ring 10 of metal is frictionally mounted on the circlip 9 to protect the circllp from mechanical damage and to facilitate cleaning of the cooker plate.
It is preferably for the cover ring 10 to be provided on its inside with projections which are pressed into the rubber ring so that the cover ring 10 is also held positively.
A temperature sensor 11 of a flame failure device, which is known per se and which is not shown, is also fixed in the burner head 3.
For this purpose there is provided in the wall of the burner head 3 of a bore 12 which begins at the lower face of the burner head 3, is directed obliquely outwards and upwards, and leads out in the peripheral wall of the burner head 3 above the circlip 9 and ring 10,the central axis of this bore 12 forming an acute angle with the central axis of the burner head 3, as shown in Figures 2 and 3.
At the bottom of the bore 12 is provided a cylindrical recess 13 which is disposed axially parallel to the central axis of the burner head, the edge of which forms a snap fit catch for a shoulder 14 provided on the sensor 11.
The central axis of the connector 4 is also included to the central axis of the burner and forms an acute angle P with the central axis of the burner head 3.
Where as in Figure 2 the annular groove 8 is disposed directly above the abutment 7, in the embodiment shown in Figure 3 there is provided between the abutment 7 and the annular groove 8 a cylindrical shoulder 15 which engages with a sliding fit into the aperture 6 in the cooker tray 1 and the height of which is at most equal to the thickness of the latter.
Although the angle of inclination to the central axis of the burner of the connector 4 (angle >) and the sensor 11 (angle A) and depicted 1 599 983 as being different in Figures 2 and 3, the angles a and,3 may, if desired, be substantially equal so that the axes of sensor 11 and connector 4 are substantially parallel to each other.
Whilst the positive engagement of the circlip 9 in groove 8 as described with reference to Figures 2 and 3 is preferred, simplified clamping relying on frictional engagement of a circlip with the peripheral wall of the burner head may alternatively be used.
