Winches.-A hand winch, comprising a chainwheel operated by worm-gear from a crank-handle a and raising the load on a loose chain r, is fitted with means for preventing the chain from disengaging from the chain wheel during hoisting. A pulley g carried by a pivoted lever working over a setting-and-retaining device j, presses the chain into engagement with the wheel. The apparatus may be fitted with a hook m for anchoring it.
