157,946. Corsalli, W. June 2, 1919, [Convention date]. Addition to 157,944. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Alloys; briquetting processes.-In a process for treating scrap iron &c. as described in the parent Specification, the ore is preheated and the slags &c. removed before the briquettes are formed, the heating and the compression of the briquettes being performed with the exclusion of air from the apparatus. In a modification, the briquettes consist of a core comprising carboncontaining material surrounded by the other ingredients with the addition of binding means or provided with a crust or glazed or coated by immersing in a liquid mass such as lime water to which finely ground quartz has been added. The hollow body of iron &c. may be made first and then filled up with carbon-containing material, iron ores, &c. and pressed in without the addition of a binding means. The process may be carried out in a crucible or in a furnace from which air is excluded.
