Abstract

Direct liquid-pressure apparatus. - In systems wherein the oil is stored over a displacement liquid, such as water, the lower limit of oil level is indicated, and overfilling and escape of oil into the drain are prevented, by means of a pipe H, Fig. 1, having its lower end located at the lowest permissible oil level in the tank A and its upper end at a level between that of the water displacement connection or drain C and the corresponding level of a balancing column of oil, so that when the oil reaches the lower end of the pipe H, it displaces the water therein, and oil escapes at the upper end. A valve I in the pipe H is adapted to be opened and closed simultaneously with a valve J in the oil-filling pipe G. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the valve I is so connected with the water-control valve E as to be opened when the water pipe B is connected to the drain C and closed when the pipe B is connected to the pressure head D. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that in a further construction, the upper end of the pipe H is connected to a chamber containing a float, which is lifted by a rise of oil to close a valve in the oil-inlet pipe or water-discharge pipe, or in both. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
