Description

Stopcock without a stuffing box.
The purpose of the present invention is to create an inexpensive, yet reliable, tap using the simplest means. This is achieved in that an elastic sealing ring is provided on the valve cone which has a diameter such that it rests against the housing wall, the ring being exposed to the liquid pressure on the side facing the inlet, so that it is under the influence when the tap is open of the liquid pressure is pressed against the housing wall. whereby the space behind the sealing ring is sealed and thus the use of a special stuffing box on the tap head is saved.
The drawing shows the tap in longitudinal section.
The function of the tap is as follows:
By turning the knob 5, the valve cone 3 is lifted from its trough-shaped seat in the housing 1 by means of a square or similarly shaped driver and the pressure fluid is allowed to exit into the outlet. When the valve cone 3 is turned back further, the annular seal 4 is pressed against the housing wall by the pressure of the liquid, whereby the space behind the valve cone is sufficiently sealed so that the stuffing box can be saved and a non-rising spindle guide can be used.
