Abstract

1439904 Sliding-clasp-fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 18 June 1974 [25 June 1973] 26840/74 Heading E2S A sliding clasp fastener comprises a pair of stringers 10, 11 each having a tape 12 with a row of interlocking fastener elements 14 on one inside edge thereof, a slider, not shown, along the rows of fastener elements for coupling, and uncoupling, the same, and a bridge top stop 15 connecting together permanently and inseparably the upper ends of the stringers for limiting the upward movement of the slider in the operation of coupling, or closing, the stringers, the bridge top stop comprising a body 16 secured in position to the adjacent edges of said pair of stringers, and means on said body defining a downwardly diverging inverted Y-shaped guide channel 21 therethrough, the guide channel accommodating corresponding parts of the rows of fastener elements throughout the entire length thereof, in such a manner that some of the fastener elements, including the topmost ones of the respective stringers, interengage within said body. As shown, the body 16 comprises upper and lower wings 17, 18, interconnected by a wedge-shaped neck 19 the sides of at least the top wing 17 carrying downwardly-directed flanges 20 shaped to define, with the neck 19, the Y-shaped guide channel 21. The lower end of the body 16 may be recessed, as shown, to accept the upper end of the slider when the latter is in its uppermost position. After the stringers 10, 11 have been manipulated through the guide channel 21 to the position shown in Fig. 1 so that the topmost elements 14, 14 interengage within the stop, the latter, when made of metal, is mechanically compressed into clamping engagement with the stringers 10, 11. When the stop is made of thermoplastic material it is secured to the stringers 10, 11 e.g. by supersonic, or high-frequency, heating. The fastener elements 14 are correspondingly made of metal, or synthetic resin. The stop may comprise a single plate 17a, which corresponds to the top wing 17, Fig. 2, and which may have an inner knurled face. The top and bottom wings 17, 18 can be provided with pressed-in teeth (22), Fig. 7 not shown, for added positional security.
