Abstract
1439479 Dye and pigment dispersions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 Nov 1974 [19 Dec 1973] 58698/73 Heading D1B Compositions of finely divided solids comprise (a) a finely divided pigment or dyestuff of particle size less than 20 microns, (b) an inert organic liquid in which the following dispersing agents are soluble at ambient temperatures, (c) a dispersing agent of formula in which Ar is an aromatic group, n is I or 0, from 2 to 3 R groups are individually H, CH3 or C2H5 and the R group or groups individually or the remaining group R-C-C-R in combination provides a solvatable chain-like component of at least 12 links and (d) a dispersing agent of formula in which D is the radical of an organic solid which is insoluble in the organic liquid, A is -O-, or -NQ- in which Q is H or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, B is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical, or B and Q together with the N atom to which they are attached form a heterocyclic ring and m is 1 to 4. The amount of pigment or dyestuff may be from 5% to 70% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The inert organic liquid may be a hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon, copper phthalocyanine, indanthrone pigments and disperse dyes being specified. The compositions may be prepared by subjecting a mixture of all the ingredients to a mechanical treatment to reduce the particle size to less than 10 microns.
