Abstract
1438756 Pressing meat ABR FOOD MACHINERY CO Ltd 29 June 1973 [17 May 1972] 23264/72 Heading A2U A meat press comprises a chamber 11 having a closable entrance through which, when open, pieces of meat can be passed into the chamber which is partly formed by means 12 for compacting meat laterally in the chamber by reduction of the internal volume of the chamber, when the said entrance is closed, to a minimum volume of predetermined size and shape having a uniform cross-section, a transfer plunger 13 actuable to move from an initial position adjacent one end of the said minimum volume to a final position adjacent the other end of the said minimum volume for pushing compressed meat, when present in the chamber, longitudinally from the chamber through an outlet 27 in register with the said cross-section at the said other end into a mould 16, which has the same uniform cross-section and, when present, is disposed in register with (the outlet, against a reaction force exerted on the compressed meat by a reaction plunger 15 of a pneumatic actuator 17 which is so mounted relative to the chamber as to be capable of urging the reaction plunger with a reaction force establishing a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure in the compressed meat while allowing the reaction plunger to withdraw from an initial position adjacent the said other end through the mould so that the transfer plunger can push the compressed meat into the mould, and pressure regulating means for maintaining gas in the said actuator at a substantially constant pressure so that the said reaction force is substantially constant.
