Abstract

1436031 Seat slides COACH & CAR EQUIPMENT CORP 11 Feb 1974 [2 March 1973] 6206/74 Heading A4J [Also in Division F2] A slide mechanism, e.g. for a vehicle seat, comprises a stationary member 22 Fig. 7, a bearing element 25, and a sliding member 21, the bearing element restricting the member 21 to linear sliding movement and restraining it against movement in other directions by engaging it at a plurality of locations of contact 40-43, the bearing element and the member 21 being so formed that at each location there is substantially linear contact between the element and the member, thereby minimizing friction. The linear contact is achieved by providing the bearing element with convex contacting surfaces. The element 25 is located with respect to the member 22 by a key 38 engaging in an aperture 27. The element is of a plastics bearing material. Each slide mechanism comprises a pair of bearing elements 25 Fig. 9 located at opposite ends of the members. The members can be locked with respect to each other by a spring-loaded rod 74 which engages in one of a series of apertures 75. The rod is released by operation of a handle 79 which causes a plate 70 to turn about a pivot pin 71. A linkage 80-82 operates a similar rod 84 on the opposite slide mechanism.
