Abstract

1427191 Laminating fabrics VYZKUMNY USTAV PLETARSKY 10 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 22414/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division D1] A multilayer fabric comprises a plurality of individual layers at least one of which contains multicomponent thermally - bondable fibres amounting to at least 2% of the entire multilayer fabric weight, the layers being thermally bonded together at least at selected areas thereof and also stitch bonded together. Stitch bonding is effected with thread using a chain, atlas, tricot, plain cord or underlapping stitch or by withdrawing fibre bundles out of the fabric by stitch-bonding needles. When thread is used, the melting temperature thereof must be at least 10‹ C. higher than that of the thermally bondable fibres if the layers are to be thermally bonded together over their entire area and must be the same as or not more than 10‹ C. higher than that of the thermally bondable fibres if thermal bonding is effected only in selected areas. Thermal bonding may be effected in a cabinet dryer by hot air or by superheated steam, or by heat calendering. One or more of the layers may have a latent curing property and one or both of the outer surfaces of the multilayer fabric may be raised. The multilayer fabric may also comprise a knitted or woven fabric, a sheet, or foam. In examples, a layer of polyamide 6/polyamide 66 heterofil fibres is combined respectively with layers of polypropylene fibre, rayon fibre (using polyamide stitching yarn) and glass fibre (using glass stitching yarn); a similar heterofil layer is combined with a polyamide 6 tow by underlapping using polyamide yarn; and a 3-layer material is formed from outer layers of polyacrylonitrile fibre and an inner layer of polyethylene/polypropylene fibres using a polyester stitching yarn.
