Abstract

1282421 Reinforced webs ROBINSON & SONS Ltd 5 Aug 1969 [9 Aug 1968] 38219/68 Heading D1R A corded crosslapped non-woven fabric consists of at least one non-woven, unbonded web 1 of fibres 2 having a directional bias so as to be substantially parallel to each other; the fibres 2 are disposed at an angle # of 0‹- 45‹ to the lateral and spaced parallel reinforcing threads 3 extending in the warp direction are bonded to the surface of the web. The reinforcing material 3 may be filament or staple yarns and may be bonded by adhesive to the web 1 at spaced positions or along its entire length. Alternatively at least some of the fibres 2 and or yarn 3 may be thermoplastic and bonding is effected by heating. The fabric may be rendered lint-free by coating on one or both sides. Suitable web fibre are those of cotton wool, viscose rayon and asbestos fibres. Suitable reinforcing yarns are those of cotton, polyamides, polyesters, diacetates, triacetates and viscose rayon. Suitable adhesives include acrylonitrilebutadiene latex, polyacrylic latex, P.V.C. and P.V.A. Melamine formaldehyde carboxymethyl cellulose and ammonium chloride are included in the latex. The fabric may be hot or cold calendered.
