Abstract

1425134 Coated glass containers UNITED GLASS Ltd 9 Sept 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 42473/74 Heading C1M [Also in Division B2] Glass containers after forming and before annealing are treated with a material which forms a metal oxide coating on the surface thereof, e.g. by spraying with an organic titanium compound or a solution or dispersion of a tin compound in an organic liquid or a complex compound of titanium or tin, and with a sprayed solution, emulsion or suspension of a temperature resistant (i.e. one substantially resistant to oxidation or thermal degradation when maintained at up to 550‹ C. for several minutes) polymeric material, e.g. polyphenylene sulphide, polyphenylene oxide, a polyimide, a polyimide amide or polybenzoxazole and then annealed. Preferably a 10-20% by weight aqueous solution, emulsion or suspension of polymeric material containing particles whose size is less than 100 Ám. more preferably less than 50 Ám. is used. The metal oxide forming material and the polymeric material may be applied through the same spray.
