1425091 Mounting printing plates; proof printing F D ESPOSTI and B SAMBRI [trading as BIEFEBI DI DEGLI ESPOSTI FRANCO SAMBRI BRENNO & C SaS] 31 Jan 1973 [5 Feb 1972] 4879/73 Heading B6C In a machine incorporating an impression cylinder in which flexible matrices are mounted on respective printing cylinders in registration, each cylinder bearing its matrix is proof printed on a sheet secured to the impression cylinder before being removed for the matrix mounting operation on the next cylinder. Each printing cylinder is held on arms 6 and moved vertically into a matrix mounting position where a sufficient gap is left between the peripheries of the printing and impression cylinders. The sheet on the impression cylinders has been previously marked and a one-way mirror on a bar 12 is used to line up the markings with the matrix or matrices being mounted. The matrix carrying cylinder is then moved into a proof printing position and in order to make this possible an Oldham coupling is provided linking the two cylinders. Rotation of the cylinders during proof printing is derived from a handwheel operated belt and pulley mechanism.
