Abstract
1423172 Linkwork LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 8 June 1973 [9 June 1972] 27155/72 Heading F2K [Also in Division A4] A wiping system for vehicle headlamps comprises a crank arm 14 rotated by a motor and coupled to wipers 11a, 12a via a linkage 16 supported on a mounting plate 17 and arranged so that rotary motion of the crank-arm 14 is converted to linear reciprocating motion of the output portion 22a of the linkage 16 which portion has a stroke greater than the throw of the crank 14. The linkage 16 comprises a link 15 connecting the crank-arm 14 to a pivot pin 21 connecting an output lever 22 to a link 18 connected by a pivot 19 to the plate 17. The end 22a of the lever 22 is coupled by rods 25, 26 to the wipers 11, 12, the the opposite end is pivotally connected to a lever 23 connected by a pivot 24 to the plate 17 and restraining the movement of the lever 22 by the crank-arm 14. The relative dimensions of the components of the linkage 16 are so selected that the output portion 22a moves in a straight line. In an alternative drive mechanism a rotary crank-arm 34, Fig. 3, is connected by a link 35 to a link 41, having one end slidable in a slot 43 in a lever 42, and the other end connected by a pivot 47 to an output lever 46. The lever 42 is connected by a pivot 44 to a mounting plate 37 and by a pivot 45 to the lever 46. The output end of the latter is connected to headlamp wipers 31, 32 (Fig. 2, not shown) by a pivot pin constrained by guide means to move linearly.
