Abstract

1422431 Rock drill feed GARDNERDENVER CO 1 Feb 1973 [12 June 1972] 5035/73 Heading B3C [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] In a valve for controlling the feed of a rock drill, a spool 54 is shifted by applying fluid pressure to either of ports 50 or 52 in excess of that applied to the other, the spool normally being held central by springs 86, 88 when there is no pressure differential between ports 50 and 52. If excess pressure is applied to the port 50 to move the spool downwards to connect a supply port 36 to a motor port 34 in a groove 56 valve element 82 moves downwards to cut off port 52 from the recess 45. At the same time, pressure in the groove 56, i.e. at the motor port 34, is fed via a passage 72 in the spool to the chamber 64 in which a valve element 74 slides. If the pressure thus fed is sufficient to overcome the pressure in port 52 acting on the valve element 82 the valve 74 will open to admit this pressure to the recess 45 where it will act to oppose the opening effects of the pressure fed to the port 50. Pressure at the motor port 34 is thus regulated to be substantially equal to that fed to the port 50. A manually operated pilot valve (Fig. 2, not shown) has two outlet connections (180), (178) connected to the ports 50, 52 and fed via restrictions from a common inlet (120) connected to the supply pump. A screwthread operated reciprocating closure member has a flat V- section groove at its centre and the axial position of this groove determines the amount of pressure fluid by-passed to an exhaust connection (188) from each of the outlets, thus determining the pressures fed to the ports 50, 52 of the main valve.
