Abstract

1420393 Trolleys for trolley trains E A HALEY 28 June 1974 [4 July 1973] 31817/73 Headings B7B and B7T A trolley for a trolley train is square in plan and is connected in the train at opposite ends of a fore and aft diagonal. The connection component at the forward end is a post 21 carried by the swivel mounting 20 of a steering castor 18. The post 21 is coupled to the rear end of the adjacent trolley by a semi-cylindrical coupling member 28 which holds the post against a seat 27 and at the same time allows the post to pivot. The trolley has a further castor 25 at its rear end, and has two fixed wheels 15 at the outer ends of the trolley's transverse diagonal. Sockets 30 receive corner posts of a load-carrying superstructure. The trolley will normally form part of a train to be towed by a tractor; but the upper end 22 of the post 21 forms a handle for manual towing and steering. The form of the trolley allows ready access from all four sides and permits a train of trolleys to have a tight turning circle. It may be used in hospitals.
