1420272 Heat-treatment of elongate steel stock INSTITUT METALLOFIZIKI AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR STALEPROVOLOCHNOKANATNY ZAVOD MINISTERSTVA CHERNOI METALLURGII SSSR and NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT BETONA I ZHELEZOBETONA 27 July 1973 35889/73 Headings C7A and C7N Elongate steel stock, e.g. wire or strip is heattreated by continuous passage through successive zones at a speed of 10-300 m/min whereby it is heated to an austenitizing temperature, martensite hardened and temper-heated to 300-700‹C at a rate of 50-3000‹C/sec. The heating steps may be carried out using muffle furnaces, fluidized beds, molten metal or molten salt baths, or direct electrical heating. In the latter case the stock may pass through a ferromagnetic jacket between the two heating steps. The martensitic cooling may take place within the ferromagnetic jacket, and may be achieved by water, or water and oil cooling.
