Abstract

1418775 Phosphonate ester derivatives HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 22 March 1973 [30 March 1972 (2)] 13907/73 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula ZCH 2 P(O)(OR) 2 wherein R is C 1 -C 6 alkyl C 1 -C 6 haloalkyl, C 2 -C 6 alkenyl, phenyl, or phenyl substituted by halogen, C 1 -C 6 alkyl or C 1 -C 6 haloalkyl, and Z is ASO 2 NH- or (W) m P(O)NH- wherein A is C 1 -C 6 alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl or alkylphenyl, m is 1 or 2, and when in is 2 W is C 1 -C 8 alkoxy and when m is 1 W is C 2 -C 8 alkylene dioxy. They may be obtained by reacting a compound: ASO 2 NHCH 2 OH or with a phosphite triester (RO) 3 P, optionally in the presence of a solvent. The products may be reacted with formaldehyde to give the N- hydroxymethyl derivatives and the main products as well as their N-hydroxymethyl derivatives are useful as flame-retardant agents for a wide range of textile materials and for elastomeric, thermoplastic and thermosetting resins.
