Abstract

1415274 Smoke flares B E WALDE and N M ASPLUND 2 April 1974 [3 April 1973] 14499/74 Heading F3A A smoke flare for ejection from a projectile 1, comprises: a cannister 4 formed with at least one orifice 10 for the discharge of smoke; and erectile wings 5 for retarding the dropping speed of the flare and for ensuring that the centre of gravity of the cannister is below the smoke discharge orifice when the cannister comes to rest on the ground. Ignition charges 9 for the smoke charge are ignited by the flash from an ejection charge 6 in the projectile. The flare(s) is/are ejected from the rear of the projectile when a base plate 2 is expelled by the ejection charge and is subsequently thrown to the side owing to an eccentric centre of gravity.
