Abstract

1415188 Advancing mine roof supports; tunnelling machines G ALACCHI 8 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 56887/72 Headings E1F and E1P In a mine roof support assembly comprising a forward frame 2, 3, 4 interconnected to a rearward frame 2a, 3a, 4a for relative advance in series, the roof beams of the frames are held in contact with the mine roof during advance by an arrangement of support jacks 10, 11, 10a. 11a which are mounted on bases 14, 14a, 14b as shown; the bases 14, 14a, 14b being interconnected by a jacking arrangement 15, 15a and the frames relatively advanced by jacks 5. For 'modus operandi' of the above assembly the Specification and Figs. 4. .8, (not shown), should be referred to. Each frame includes a cantilever extension 6 or 6a which is actuated by a jack 7 or 7a; the roof girders and cantilever extensions bearing against the mine roof via hydraulic cushions 18 covered by strip steel. In a modification the base of the assembly supports a rotatable turret to which an articulated coal cutter is attached and in a further modfiication the turret carries a pivotal arm supporting a coal-cutting chain, see Figs. 10, 11, 12 and Figs. 13, 14 (not shown) respectively.
