Abstract

1411796 Vehicle seat belts O L LINDBLAD 2 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45382/72 Heading A3V A vehicle is provided with a seat 1 adjacent a door 3 and a seat belt in the form of lap and diagonal parts 5, 6 which are respectively secured to a floor fitting 43 and a roof fitting 7 and at their meeting points are secured to a belt part 4 wound on a belt retractionreel 8 mounted in the bottom rear corner of the door 3, the belt part 4 being threaded through a loop fitting 9 secured to one end of a rope 10 wound on a drum 11 of a reversible electric motor, the arrangement being such that under control of the motor 12 the belt is movable from its operative position (shown in full lines) to an inoperative position with the door open clear of the seat to allow access to and exit from the vehicle. Electric supply circuits for the motor 12 are described to allow wind-up and unwinding of the rope 10 under control of switches sensing the presence of a passenger in the seat 1 and of door switches. An extra belt part 14 may be provided between the belt part 6 and a vertically displaceable mounting on the seat, and a fitting 13 is provided at the door opening which engages a locking mechanism on the belt reel 8 when the door is closed.
