Abstract
1410392 Packaging material; jackets for bottles CELLU-PRODUCTS CO 5 Feb 1973 [3 Feb 1972] 5693/73 Headings B8C and B8D A resilient packaging material for protecting articles, e.g. bottles, B, comprises a tube 10 of flexible foam material, e.g. polyethylene foam material, having spaced apart, longitudinally extending parallel rows 11 of spaced longitudinally extending slits, with the slits in adjacent rows being in staggered formation, whereby the tube is stretchable radially into net-like form over an article of greater cross-sectional area than the initial cross-sectional area of the tube and is then recoverable into substantial conformance with the size and shape of the article. As shown, the tube may be formed from a flat web which is folded over and seamed at 12 and is then wound into a roll (13), Fig. 1 (not shown). Alternatively the tube may be formed by two superimposed flat webs, seamed together at their edges (20), (21), Fig. 8 (not shown). The tube may be removed from the bottle B by fracturing the material between the slits, Fig. 4. The bottle or bottles with the tube or tubes in place thereon may be enclosed in a carton, Figs. 3 and 6 (not shown).
