Abstract

1350360 Packages V T JANHONEN 23 Nov 1972 [23 Nov 1971 24 Aug 1972] 54293/72 Heading B8C A reinforced package comprises a bag-like envelope 1 made for example of plastics, paper, &c., a reinforcing plate 2 made, for instance, of plastics, cork, foamed plastics, &c., and contents such as two books, as shown, or skeins of yarn, film slides, &c., placed on one side of the plate, the envelope, together with its reinforcing plate and contents, being folded, at least double, so that the contents are confined between walls formed by the reinforcing plate 2. The mouth of the bag is folded over and secured by adhesive tape 6. The fold line 4 is determined by the dimensions of the goods being packaged, the plate 2 preferably being sufficiently flexible to allow for bending. The plate 2 may however, be provided with a folding groove, or grooves, or the equivalent. The marginal portions of the plate 2 may be provided with folding grooves so that the margins may be folded to protect the sides and ends of the goods packaged. A continuous flattened tube 1<SP>1</SP> of packaging material with an internal continuous reinforcing plate 2<SP>1</SP> can be unwound from a storage roll, not shown, and a strip of tube of the desired length can be cut off, Fig. 5, to accommodate the goods which can be inserted into the strip from both ends, before it is folded along one, or several, fold lines. In a modification, Fig. 6, not shown, a flattened folded strip is provided with a series of transverse seams (7) to provide a number of interconnected, open envelopes each having a reinforcing plate (2).
