Abstract

1410062 Sampling molten metal AIKOH CO Ltd 5 Sept 1972 [6 Sept 1971] 41137/72 Heading G1B [Also in Division B3] Apparatus for sampling molten steel comprises a mould 3 having a flow channel 10 in which a glass tube 4 is inserted, the channel 10 and tube 4 being held together by a refractory member 11 provided with an annular member 12 for sliding within a paper cylinder 13. The tube contains Al particles for killing the steel. In use, an identification tag 8 is fitted into the mould 3, and the mould assembly is pushed by a tube 15 into the position shown. A sample of molten steel is poured into the tube 4 and hence into the mould 3 where it solidifies around the tag 8.
