Abstract

1409919 Ignition distributor vacuum unit LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [15 Jan 1972] 2045/72 Heading F1B [Also in Division H1] A vacuum unit 15 for an ignition distributor comprises a diaphragm 17, a connecting link 18 secured at one end to the diaphragm and extending from the unit for connection in use to the timing plate (not shown) of the distributor, and a bracket 23 secured to the unit for fixing it to the distributor casing, the bracket having a locating member 26 for engaging the distributor cap to locate it in a desired angular position relative to the distributor casing. The locating member 26 engages a recess 27 of the cap. A second locating member 28 is provided so that the vacuum unit can be used the other way up to achieve anti-clockwise instead of clockwise rotation of the timing plate as the link 18 is withdrawn from the distributor casing. The link 18 has a hole 25, which is formed after the vacuum unit has been assembled, the position of the hole being determined by using member 26 as a reference point. A pin extends through the hole 18 to connect the link to the distributor timing plate. The casing of the distributor has an unbroken wall 11b to reduce entry of contaminants. Where screws are used to attach bracket 23 to the casing 11, tags may be provided on a mounting plate of the contact breaker assembly to engage with one of the screws to resist rotation of the mounting plate.
