Abstract

1409468 Coated products SANOL-ARZNEIMITTEL DR SCHWARZ GmbH 8 May 1973 [17 May 1972] 21879/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division A5] Coated finely. divided medicinal substances having particle diameter of up to 1 mm are are obtained by fluidising the particles and spraying with a solution of the coating medium in a mixture of at least two solvents, the coating substance being more soluble in the solvent of lower boiling point. Suitable coating materials are ethyl cellulose, methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose, cellulose acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate and zein. Where the coating material is ethyl cellulose the solvents may be methylene chloride and cyclohexane or a mixture of a lower alkanol such as ethanol and water or a mixture of chloroform and carbon tetrachloride. In the examples acetylsalicylic acid is coated with ethyl cellulose in solution in methylene chloride and cyclohexane and particles of p-chlorophenoxy isobutyric acid are coated with ethyl cellulose in a solution of ethanol and water.
