Abstract

1409301 Cleaning pipes GENERAL WIRE SPRING CO 18 Sept 1972 43084/72 Heading F2N A plumber's snake apparatus comprises a rotatable housing 3 receiving a cartridge 4 containing coiled flexible snake 5 and rotatable with the housing, the housing and cartridge having co-operating axial openings for passage of the snake therethrough. In the embodiment shown the housing is in two parts 10, 11 retained together by thumb screws 13 and is driven by a reversible electric motor 2. The snake cartridge 4 is of moulded plastics and is driven by frictional engagement with the housing. A spindle 19 is mounted on the housing and carries a handgrip 6, rotatable and slidable relative to the spindle. On rearward sliding of the handgrip it carries with it a sleeve 21 slidably mounted on the spindle, the sleeve depressing spring arms 25 to move jawheads 26 through holes 31 in the spindle and into engagement with the snake thus preventing relative rotation of the snake and housing during a cleaning operation.
