Abstract

1409165 Handling thin material POLYGRAPH LEIPZIG KOMBINAT FUR POLYGRAPHISCHE MASCHINEN UND AUSRUSTUNGEN VEB 26 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 30206/73 Heading B8R [Also in Division G1] A checking device in a polygraphic machine provided with a feed path for conveying material in the form of a continuous web or discrete workpiece comprises a light source 8 at one checking location 6, a photo-electric sensing device 9 at a further checking location 7, a light guide, e.g. optical fibre 11 interconnecting the checking locations and a control unit 10 responsive to electrical signals derived from the device 9, for example if a sheet is fed obliquely, as sheets 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP>, to stop the machine, actuate an indicator device or actuate a sorting shunt. The device may be applied to sheet length checking or sheet feed timing checking, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), the device detects slanting fold formation and inaccurate longitudinal folding by use of one checking location (34) for width check and the further location (35) for a length check. Feeding a folded sheet aslant to a stack (36) is detected, Fig. 5 (not shown), by arranging the one location (37) at the expected width of the stack and the further location (38) at the expected height.
