Abstract

1,205,581. Feeding and delivering sheets; folding. CAMCO (MACHINERY) Ltd. 9 Jan., 1968 [9 Jan., 1967], No. 1190/67. Heading B8R. A paper sheet folding machine, which includes at least one knife folder section comprising a reciprocatory knife blade in alignment with the nip of a pair of folding rollers, has adjustable lay stop means for arresting a sheet in correct position beneath the blade which means carries a photo-electric sensing device operative to energize the blade upon correct registration of a sheet against the lay stop. Feeding sheets.-Paper sheets are separated from stack 11 by apertured suction drum 26, the stack being simultaneously raised by table 39. Blast pipe 27 assists the separation. Gear 40 allows variation of the feed rate. Buckle-folders.-Sheets fed by endless tape conveyer 12 pass to buckle folder section 14 by which any number of transverse folds up to a total of four may be imparted thereto. Rollers 43 co-operate with conventional fold plates 45 and provision is made for altering the number of operative fold plates by insertion of deflectors 46. A slitting, scoring or perforating unit 47 may also be provided. Reciprocating blade folders.-Two blade folders 17, 21 are provided wherein blades 30, Fig. 3, and 72, Fig. 2, co-operate with rollers 29 and 74 in the conventional manner. Sheets S are delivered by endless tape conveyer 15 against lay stop 34 which also includes side lay members and carries photo-electric sensing means 33. Stop 34 is adjustable longitudinally and transversely of the machine frame on slide bars 49 and 49a. In response to a sheet arriving at the stop, photo-cell 33 causes compressed air to be supplied to the piston of operating cylinder 31, thus causing the blade to descend. Rollers 18, which may include a further buckle folder section, deliver the sheets to conveyer 19 and thus to the second blade folder 21 also controlled by photo-cell 33. Any inoperative blade may be locked in the raised position. When no blade folder is in use sheets from buckle folder 14 are conveyed by conveyer 15 direct to stacking unit 25 (Fig. 1, not shown).
