Abstract
1408694 Converting solid waste SYNGAS RECYLING CORP 10 May 1973 22376/73 Heading C5E Solid waste is converted into a combustible product gas by contacting one or more of municipal sewage sludge, refuse, carbohydratecontaining industrial, agricultural or farming waste, e.g. corn stalks, cow manure, in a reaction zone with a reaction gas composed of at least 90 mole per cent hydrogen at a reaction pressure of 1000 to 3000 p.s.i.g. and a temperature of 500‹ to 675‹ C.; removing from the reaction zone the resulting carbonaceous residue free of liquid hydrocarbon products; and removing from the reaction zone a product gas at a pressure of at least 1000 p.s.i.g., the product gas being sustantially free of condensable or entrained hydrocarbon products and including methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water vapour. The product gas may contain ethane. The produce gas may be cooled to condense the water vapour, the carbon dioxide removed and the carbon monoxide methanated.
