Abstract

1407794 Hydrogenation SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 24 Oct 1972 [26 Oct 1971] 49651/71 Heading C5E A process for removing aromatic compounds from a distillate hydrocarbon fraction containing up to 5 p.p.m. of sulphur compounds comprises dissolving 85-135% of the amount of hydrogen stoichiometrically needed to saturate the aromatics present in the distillate hydrocarbon fraction and contacting the solution with a solid hydrogenation catalyst. The hydrogenation can be carried out at 85-200‹ C. and at 1-100 atmospheres absolute using a catalyst containing Pt, Rh, Ru or Ni on an alumina or silica support. The distillate treated can be a C 5 /C 6 fraction obtained from a naphtha having a final boiling point of 180-200‹ C.
