Abstract
1407210 Load cell R HATCH 10 Nov 1972 [13 Nov 1971] 52827/71 Heading G1W A load cell comprises a cylinder 5 connected to a pressure gauge 8 and a piston 9 sealed to the container by a ring 6, a part of the apparatus in contact with the oil 10 being deformable to such an extent that the deformation under a load tube measured compensates for changes of volume in the other parts of the apparatus so that the piston 9 does not move bodily relative the cylinder 5 and friction effects are eliminated. As shown in the Figure, the head 11 of the piston may be deformable. Alternatively the cylinder 5 or the pipe 7 may be deformable and arranged to be compressed by the load.
