Abstract
1405025 Endoscopes etc; liquid-injecting and liquid-drainage devices J R BROWN 7 Feb 1973 6124/73 Heading A5R A proctoscope or sigmoidoscope A comprises a longitudinally extending tubular body 14 having a central passage P extending therethrough, a plurality of conduits such as 20 extending longitudinally externally of said body, each with a part annular opening adjacent one end of said body and provided with means 41 controlling the flow of injection fluid under pressure through said conduits, a further plurality of conduits such as 21 extending longitudinally externally of said body and each having a part-annular opening adjacent said one end, means being provided for applying suction to said second conduits, and means 31 controlling the flow of fluid through said second conduits. The conduits 20, 21 are located alternately around the body 14, the conduits being defined by the body 14, an outer tube 15, and radial members (18), Fig. 2 (not shown). The conduits 21 are connected to a common suction manifold S and the conduits 20 to a common injection manifold M through which the water &c is supplied. A light may be inserted into the passage P to facilitate visual examination. Insertion of the instrument may be facilitated using a tube (I), Fig. 3 (not shown) having a rounded tip (T').
