Abstract

1404874 Engine starting drive J MOLLIET 21 Jan 1973 [1 Feb 1972] 4372/73 Heading F1K [ Also in Division F2] In a one-way clutch for an I.C. engine starter wherein wedging rollers 27 are interposed between a cylindrical driven hub 7 and a driving sleeve 3 having wedging recesses 26, the hub 7 and sleeve 3 are centered by an axially extending spigot 8 of the hub 7 engaging a recess 9 in the sleeve 3. The rollers 27 are urged into a wedging position by springs 30. The hub 7 is fast with a starter pinion 5 whilst the sleeve 3 has an extension 13 which is internally grooved to receive corresponding grooves on a starter motor shaft. A groove 14 in the sleeve 13 is engaged by a fork which moves the sleeve and pinion axially.
