Abstract

1494098 Freewheel clutches ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 28 Nov 1974 [29 Nov 1973] 51531/74 Heading F2C [Also in Division B3] In a freewheel clutch for connecting a starter motor to an internal combustion engine, rollers 11 are biased into contact with cam surfaces on an outer race 7 integral with a sleeve 2 (by springs 12, Fig. 2, not shown), the inner race 6 being integral with a starter pinion 1 and the clutch being provided with a cup-shaped housing member 17 which is secured to the outer race 7 by being pressed into annular grooves 19 in the surface of the race 7. The rollers 11 and springs 12 are retained in the recesses of the outer race 7 by a plastics member 13, there being a securing plate 16 between a wall 18 of housing member 17 and member 13, although the securing plate 16 may be dispensed with. The sleeve 2 has a coarse screw-thread 3 which meshes with a screw-thread on a motor shaft. A tool is described (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) for pressing the housing member 17 into the grooves 19.
