Abstract
1402967 Electro-photographic element INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 1 March 1973 [9 March 1972] 9914/73 Heading G2C An electro-photographic element comprises photo-conductive pigment particles of less than 5 Á diameter, the pigment comprising a salt having an organic cation of formula [Q-CH#CH CH# n Q'] + wherein Q and Q' is a quinoline ring system having a hydrocarbon substituent on the nitrogen atom and n is 0 to 3, and an anion containing a halogen. In the embodiments the pigments are cyanine or carbocyanine iodides or bromides with the quinoline nuclei substituted by allyl, ethyl and methyl. The pigment may be mixed with molten trinitro-fluorenone or with one or more of sucrose benzoate, a polyester or a polyketone and optionally 2,4,7-trinitrofluorenone or p-nitrophenylquinone and coated on an aluminium support. The photo-conductive layer may be overcoated with a transparent layer of a polyester and 2,4,7-trinitro-fluorenone.
