Abstract

1401954 Thermal switches OTTER CONTROLS Ltd and J C TAYLOR 5 June 1972 [18 May 1971 10 Dec 1971] 15619/71 and 57587/71 Heading H1N [Also in Divisions H2 and H5] A thermal control unit 1 for fitting in an immersion heater head 2 includes a switch actuating member 17 comprising a dished snapacting bimetal 19 which in use is positioned adjacent a wall of the head 2 and so arranged that when it is in the position to which it moves with falling temperature its concave side faces the adjacent wall of the head 2. As shown, bimetal 19 is as that described in Specification 1,401,953. A shaped projection 30 in the wall 27 of head 2 engages the concave side of bimetal 19 for better heat conduction. The cold leads 13, 16 of element 3 engage connectors 12, 15, and unit 1 is secured in head 2 via a threaded earth connection stud 31. In a modification, Fig. 7, unit 32 is identical with unit 1 except that it is externally screw-threaded to enable unit 32 and immersion heater head 38 to be secured in an aperture in a kettle by ring 35 with a second threaded mounting stud 37 and a rubber sealing ring 39 fitting tightly over unit 32 and trapped between head 38 and the inside wall of the kettle.
