Abstract
1401673 Exhaust gas treatment VARTA AG 8 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 36973/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] An exhaust system for an I.C. engine has a catalyst in the path traversed by exhaust gases, the catalyst comprising one or more of the metals nickel, cobalt, iron, copper, silver, gold, chromium, molybdenum and tungsten, each such metal, having been obtained by leaching an alloy of it and an alloying metal with an acid or alkaline solution to remove said alloying metal. Part of the catalyst may have exhaust gas passed through it to reduce nitrogen oxides, following which air is added and the resulting mixture passed through the remainder of the catalyst for oxidation. The treatment of gas containing carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water, hydrogen, oxygen, ammonia, hydrocarbons, nitrogen and oxides of nitrogen is exemplified.
