Abstract

1401589 Latch mechanisms SAMSONITE CORP 13 Dec 1973 57890/73 Heading E2A [Also in Division A4] A latch mechanism for releasably securing luggage case sections comprises a first section including a hand-operated release and fastening actuator 17 having a gravity-actuated latching member 28 one end of which has a terminal hook part 32, and a second section including an opening therein for receiving the hook part therein when the two sections are brought together; the latching member is pivotable from a first or latching position in which the hook part engages an edge of the opening and latches the two sections together, to a second position in, which the hook part is free from any edges of the opening are permits the two sections to be separated. The actuator may incorporate a lock 26. The latch member operates when the case is orientated wrong-side up to prevent operation of the actuator and spillage of the contents of the case.
