Abstract

1401293 Gas discharge lamps GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 4 April 1973 [19 April 1972] 18095/72 Heading H1D A high-pressure discharge lamp has a tubular envelope which in transverse cross-section has a configuration on the inside and/or outside such as to provide a non-uniform polar distribution of light. Typical cross-sections are shown in the figures which include the formation of lenses and prisms to direct the light as required. The envelope can be made of fused silica or sintered alumina or preferably crystalline corundum. The ends of the tubes can be sealed by niobium members soldered to the tube with zirconiumtitanium-vanadium alloy. The filling of the lamp can include sodium, mercury and xenon at a pressure of 30 Torr.
