Abstract

1400373 Transporters WELLMAN MECHANICAL ENG Ltd 10 Jan 1974 [10 Jan 1973] 1298/73 Heading B8E [Also in Division F4] A pot transporter as used in steel making comprises a tractor 10 coupled at 12 to a tractor 14 with a U-shaped main frame 16 that has swinging arms 18 and ground wheels 20 with levelling rams 22. Mounted on the main frame are links 24 with lifting jacks 26 and tipping cylinders 28 which in their contracted state are the same length as the links 24. A cradle 30 with jaws 32 and latches 34 is mounted on the links 24 and tipping cylinders 28, so that with a pot 40 located in the cradle by trunnions and downward projections, operation of jacks 26 will lift the pot on a level keel for manoeuvring to a desired destination. On arrival tipping cylinders 28 are extended for tipping of the cradle about the axis of the connection with the links 24, Fig. 3 (not shown). A second pair of jaws 44 and tipping cylinders 28 are used for lowering a pot from a plinth Fig. 4 (not shown). Pots may alternatively be located in the cradle by means of trunnions (70), Fig. 5 (not shown), and a spigot (72) in a cradle socket (74) or a pair of spaced bosses (76) on either side of the pot Fig. 6 (not shown) may be used.
